Schools Work Together for the Community
Wendover CE Junior, John Hampden School Wendover, Halton Combined and John Colet School have formed a cluster group to introduce and enhance a National initiative in Social and Emotional Learning in our schools.
A successful information evening to the parents of our cluster schools was held on Tuesday 18th March at the John Colet School.
Parents were introduced to ‘SEAL’ (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) and had the opportunity to work with some of the materials used by children in their schools.
The SEAL initiative is based on the Government’s ‘Every Child Matters’ outcomes:
1. Be healthy
2. Stay safe
3. Enjoy and achieve
4. Make a positive contribution
5. Achieve economic well-being
Carol Kennedy, Cluster Lead and Maggie Farmer, SEAL Consultant Bucks CC reiterated that statistically, emotionally secure, healthy, happy children achieve more academically.
A ‘Focus on Family Life’ course has just begun. This popular course, run by St. Mary’s Church Wendover and hosted by our SEAL cluster schools, was run in the Autumn Term of 2007. This course is open to any parent who would like the opportunity to share their parenting experiences with others. If you would like to come along to any of the sessions and for more information please call Nicola on 01296 625441.
