No2 Pound Street

Logo of No 2 Pound Street

2012 kicked off with a very stylish bang at No. 2 Pound Street as our very own Bonds and Moneypennys shook and stirred their way into the New Year  party with everyone donating to this month’s charity, raising a fabulous £300 for CATS Children’s Acute Transport Service. We are continuing to support CATS throughout January, so drop in for a coffee or tea on Mondays, when we don’t charge but  ask that you to make a donation to this hard-working and vital local charity. Going forwards, we will next be supporting the Florence Nightingale Hospice.

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and we are preparing the most elegant and irresistible hampers for your Special Someone. With our ever-expanding range of Britain’s most decadent chocolates and the most sophisticated sparkling wines, there’s no excuse to be caught out without a gift this 14th February! 2012 also means it’s the lady’s turn to take a romantic plunge, as British ladies traditionally propose to their men in a leap year. And if you really want to get the ball rolling, we are always on hand to talk wedding cakes of cheese and drinks for wedding receptions!

Happy Valentine from all of us at No. 2 Pound Street!

Exciting Times at The Chiltern Brewery and The Farmers’ Bar

Logo of the Chiltern Brewery

What a year 2012 will be with the Olympics and  Diamond Jubilee. The Chiltern Brewery has special ales for both occasions in addition to their exciting selection of  limited edition beers. A wonderful new Beer Menu at The Farmers’ Bar features a great selection of Porters and Stouts from guest breweries across England, each beer is hand-picked for its quality and provenance and there will be an exciting world first when London Brewers, Kernel, rack the first and only cask of their famous bottled beer Export India Porter.

The lunch menu at The Farmers’ Bar also picks up on the popular trend of beer and food matching with recommendations. Come along and see if you agree with the choices.

The fabulous Brewery Shop at Terrick is now open until 7pm every Friday where the new 8 pint box has been well received.  There is beer tasting at the shop on the first Friday of each month from 5.00-7.00pm. The Brewery tours at 3pm on Fridays and Saturdays are ‘new and improved’ offering a lovely insight into the brewing process and the history of The Chiltern Brewery.  Booking is essential, please, on the website or 01296 613647.

Spring in the Garden

Just when it looked like the weather pattern had settled into snow between mid December to mid January, it has changed again and we are getting some hard frosts at the moment.  This is a good time of year to revitalise a border, it is something that I get involved in now with a number of clients. The main things to consider when planning this are: how much time do you have to carry out the work, and what do you want to achieve?

The best way to start this project is to measure the border and draw it out on paper to scale, then you can be more accurate when calculating the number of new plants you may need.  Find out where north is, to work out how sunny the border is as this will influence the planting:

  1. What plants do you like and can these be incorporated in the border?
  2. What plants are worth keeping and which plants should be removed?
  3. Do you want colour throughout the year or in a particular season? This will influence your plant selection and
  4. I aim for a mixture of about 30% evergreen plants to 70% deciduous plants to ensure the border has structure and colour throughout the year.
