Wendover News is 21
It’s time to celebrate as Wendover News turns 21 this month.
We would like to thank all of our loyal readers and advertisers for supporting us over the past 21 years. It is a testament to the people of Wendover that Wendover News has been such a success. Though some of us have a few more grey hairs, grown up and flown the nest, settled down and had children or been welcomed as newcomers, some aspects of Wendover are much the same now as they were in 1989. The sense of community is certainly stronger than ever.
Wendover News has developed from a fledgling 4 page publication to a bumper 24 page fountain of information and a forum for local people. With the advent of the internet Wendover News has become global with readers as far afield as Canada and Australia and now encompasses Facebook and Twitter.
In an interesting parallel to our first edition back in September 1989 where the hot topic was the Wendover Bypass, the contentious issue of the moment is High Speed 2, the proposed route running next to the existing bypass. HS2 will be detrimental to Wendover having no benefit at all, however there is no doubt that the threat of HS2 will bring the community together.
Rather like Wendover High Street, we have seen many changes over the years and continue to go from strength to strength. We hope you continue to enjoy Wendover News in all its forms over the years to come.
Jane Larkham, editor of Wendover News, and Mark Hyland, Vice President of Wendover Funding from Greensboro, North Carolina.
He visited Wendover News in March 1992 when it was part of the Wendover Enterprise at 10A High Street, Wendover and received copies of Wendover News until around the millennium when the American business moved on.
Wendover News remains!
